United Kingdoms Youth Leaders Visits Russia

The Young Creative leaders are currently visiting Moscow, Russia with a delegation that consists of – students and recent graduates from Leeds Beckett University, selected to attend Russia’s International Volunteer Forum in Moscow amongst 15,000 participants. Hannah Temme a member of the Elevate Young Minds Society at Leeds Beckett University. Timothy Spinks, Co-Founder of Action Interactive International, and, Holly Beattie, Director of PR and Communications for AI International.

Action Interactive International has been working collaboratively within Leeds for three years to help achieve empowerment for displaced and disempowered communities. The work of those involved in this charity has achieved a lasting annual Refugee Awareness Week at Leeds Beckett University, supported by the Students’ Union, alongside developing community cohesion through sports and education.

President Vladimir Putin proclaimed 2018 the Year of the Volunteer which is aimed to increase the number of people involved in active social and civic life as well as to set a new pace of development of the volunteer movement. Those chosen to attend the forum are active within different areas of the UK in striving to achieve an equal and sustainable future for people. As new technologies and ideologies become embedded in our societies it is ever more important that youth-led initiatives are given a platform on a global stage. It is imperative that these forums exist and countries open their borders to people from across the globe to exchange experiences and ideas. An ever-growing globalized world holds great prospects and development opportunities, but these cannot be fulfilled without global cooperation and communication.

Previous opportunities grasped by members of the Young Creative Leaders include two group trips to Tanzania, to showcase cultural practice as an alternative education model, demonstrated through dance workshops. Another achievement consisted of four members taking part in Tanzanian International Model United Nations and mutual international development opportunities. Young Creative Leaders its cultural partners have also successfully hosted an annual collaboration of artistic expression in Lisbon, Portugal.

The Young Creative Leaders and members attending the Russian International Volunteer Forum believe that young people have the potential to create a strong future globally and will be sharing ideas of inclusivity, equality and the importance of the SDGs throughout the coming days.
