A conversation with the Founder of Anarchy Cinemas

The event Young Minds Matter LX has as a partner the Anarchy Cinema, a creative video
production company & a member of the Young Creative Leaders that's based in the UK.

Anarchy Cinema focuses essentially on music videos, documentaries, short films, interviews, commercials, and videos to promote companies or artists. Founded by Pishi Modaressi, a young and creative mind, it has started as a small company that only made music videos and today, they have their presence in already eight countries and have their own festival, the Anarchy Film Festival. The Anarchy Cinema is the video maker of the festival, they create the image of the event, by making interviews to the artists, in capturing all the moments from the festival, from leisure moments to the artists’ work, since performances to concerts, and they make videos that promote the event.

In a conversation with Pishi Modaressi, the founder and director of Anarchy Cinema, with only 22 years old, he told me about how Anarchy Cinema was born, how it grew until today and
about the participation in Young Minds Matter LX, since 2017. The Anarchy Cinema has it was
already mentioned, has started by doing just music videos for young artists, and went fast to
strategy and video promotions, in which it has as focus, to create eye-catching videos to
companies or artists. Besides that, they are interested in documentaries, already with two held, that look to “discuss bigger issues”, says Pishi, such as social segregation and mental health. Anarchy Cinema also demands to focus on the voice of the people and also to the artists and musicians. Hence there their participation being crucial in Young Minds Matter, an event that wants to promote the emergent young art.

Besides the company Anarchy Cinema, I was also curious about the filming technique from
Pishi and what does he want to demonstrate in his shootings. In the 2017 edition, Pishi was the
only one with a camera on his hands. Today, because of the fast growth of his company, we
barely see him with a camera. Although, it’s his technique that prevails and what the event
looks for. “I like to capture the small details, the special and unique moments sometimes,
people don’t even notice that I’m filming them”, says Pishi. Thus, by visioning the documentary
from last year edition and also the video that promotes the event, we see the natural facial
expressions very close to the camera, a special moment captured discreetly, that promotes a
transparent image and far away from artificial of Young Minds Matter festival. Moreover, they
are interested in interviewing artists and participants, that give their opinion about the event, talk about their passions, what they aspire and other question relative to art and the event, in
order to demonstrate the concept and dynamic of this occurrence in the Portuguese capital
city that gathers young aspiring artists.

This year, there are more workers in the Anarchy Cinema, that go filming, photographing,
tapping and interviewing, in order to record the entire unique moments of the festival. In the
end, we will have again a documentary and a resume video of the 2018 edition, in which you
will be able to see all the faces that participated in the event and that made it happen once
more, and also with the propose of, next year, call more artists that want to expose and give their voices and ideas, for more visitors to admire the incredible artwork that these young people, such as dance, performance, theatre and visual arts. By Pishi’s words, “I try to make
people feel they are there while watching the videos”, and, indeed, that’s exactly what we feel
by watching the videos held by Anarchy Cinema.
